Climate

Kenya has a varied climate influenced by its diverse topography. The Kenyan coast enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year, ideal for the beach and marine activities. Inland, particularly in the savanna regions and highlands, the climate is generally more temperate and dry. Summers (December to March) are hot, with temperatures reaching up to 30°C, while winters (June to August) are cooler, with nighttime temperatures dropping below 10°C in some areas. The rainy seasons typically occur from April to May and then from October to November, bringing lush landscapes but sometimes making roads impassable.

Currency

The official currency of Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). International credit and debit cards are accepted in major cities and tourist areas, but it is recommended to carry cash when traveling to more remote areas. ATMs are widely available in urban areas. It is advised to exchange money at official exchange bureaus or banks to obtain the best rates.

Health

Travelers to Kenya should take certain health precautions. It is recommended to be vaccinated against diseases such as hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow fever, and to take preventive measures against malaria. Tap water is generally not safe to drink; bottled or treated water is preferable. Kenya’s healthcare system is uneven, with good facilities in major cities and near tourist areas but limited in remote regions. It is strongly advised to have travel insurance covering medical care and medical evacuation.
